Wrexham fan launches petition after noticing 'controversial detail' in the club's new Kop Stand as new designs unveiled

Some fans have noticed a detail Welsh fans will hate.

Wrexham fans have launched a petition to change the proposed design of the new Kop Stand, after concerns part of the design resembled the English flag.

The Welsh side, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, revealed the plans for the new stand at the Club’s STōK Cae Ras stadium on Monday.

It is claimed the 5,500 capacity stand's 'unique design that will create an atmospheric home' for Wrexham, however, some fans have raised concerns over the design.

Shortly after the club's announcement, Wrexham fan Gareth Hughes started up a petition to make a design change as he believes the current design 'unintentionally resembles the flag of England'.

Based off the computer image released by Wrexham, it seems Graham is taking issue with what looks like metal support beams that will hold up the translucent outer structure.

He wrote on change.org: "We, the undersigned, are passionate supporters of Wrexham AFC and proud members of the Wrexham community.

"We welcome the development of the new Kop Stand and recognise the effort put into modernising the Racecourse Ground.

"However, we have concerns regarding the design of the stand’s façade, which unintentionally resembles the flag of England rather than reflecting the identity of Wrexham and Wales.

"Wrexham is a city with a deep-rooted Welsh heritage, and the Racecourse Ground holds historical significance as the home of the Wales national football team. We believe that the new stand should proudly represent Wrexham AFC and its Welsh identity," he added.

Despite only gaining three signatures at the time of writing, the petition has gained notoriety on social media, with the majority of fans questioning where the alleged flag of St George even is.

One fan wrote: "Odd fanbase sometimes! Paint the imaginary flag yellow, no issue. Ignore the fact there isn't a flag there and focus on the dragon."

Another added: "This can't be real. We have THE weirdest fan based."

A third fan commented: "Honestly, I get it if you don't like the design, but this is the next level."

Wrexham fans demands for new Kop Stand via change.org

-A review of the current design to ensure it better represents Wales and Wrexham AFC.

-Modifications to incorporate more distinctly Welsh elements, such as the Red Dragon (Y Ddraig Goch) or other national symbols.

-An open dialogue with fans and the community to ensure the new stand reflects the pride and passion of Wrexham supporters.

-We appreciate the investment in our club’s future and look forward to a stand that truly represents Wrexham AFC and its Welsh heritage.
