Wayne Rooney wanted to apply for law school after becoming obsessed with the 'Wagatha Christie' trial, his wife Coleen has revealed.

Wagatha Christie was the name given to the 2022 libel case involving Coleen and Rebekah Vardy, the wife of Leicester legend Jamie.

Rooney accused Vardy of leaking stories from her private Instagram account to The Sun, with Vardy then suing for libel.

The case went to court and attracted significant media coverage, with Rooney's claims eventually deemed to be 'substantially true'. Vardy's claim was dismissed and she was forced to pay £3 million.

Wayne was pictured accompanying Coleen to the court on each day, and even gave evidence at the trial.

That resulted in an infamous court portrait of the Manchester United legend going viral, with one Twitter user claiming it made him look like WWE legend Triple H.

A Disney+ documentary surrounding the events of the trial, titled 'Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story', will release this Wednesday, featuring lengthy interviews with Coleen about the case.

You can watch the trailer below.

And she revealed that her husband attended daily briefings with her and her lawyers, Paul Lunt and David Sherborne. He even suggested legal arguments, and the case convinced him to make some big plans for the future.

Coleen explains: "Wayne shut up and let David or Paul speak.

"He was then going to apply for law school and he had all these plans."

When the case's final verdict came in, she recalled: "I couldn't process it. It was... I swore, and that was the only thing I did. I just swore, and I teared up, and it just didn't sink in.

"Straight away, my phone started pinging and messages started to come through."

Wayne is now back in English football as manager of Championship side Birmingham, having left MLS club DC United earlier this month.

His Blues side will take on Jamie Vardy's Leicester at St Andrew's on December 16 - in a match already being dubbed the 'Wagatha Derby'.
