Sky Sports forced to make scoreboard graphic change to avoid spelling out crude word

Sky Sports forced to make scoreboard graphic change to avoid spelling out crude word

Sky Sports had to change a club's abbreviated name to avoid embarrassment.

Sky Sports were forced into making a rare change to their scoreboard graphic on Thursday night to avoid an embarrassing situation.

The broadcaster aired live coverage of Harrogate Town's clash with Doncaster Rovers in League Two.

The hosts won 2-0, with Ellis Taylor and Josh March scoring in the first half at Wetherby Road.

But one fan on social media spotted a change made to the visitors' name on the graphic we see in the left-hand corner.

Harrogate are abbreviated to 'HAR' on the graphic, with Doncaster normally shortened to 'DON' to fit.

However, as X user @joshpearson180 pointed out, the Yorkshire outfit's name simply read 'DR'.

And he is adamant that Sky did it to avoid spelling another word for an erection, in the scoreboard.

He wrote: "Sky changing Doncaster from DON to DR to prevent the HAR-DON derby. Utter woke nonsense."

And a flurry of reaction followed Sky moving to avoid a crude bit of language.

One user commented: "So funny. I wondered why DR."

A second joked: "Is there nothing sacred any more."

Another laughed: "What if it was a semi?"

A fourth came up with another innuendo, adding: "Shame because Doncaster Rovers are stiff competition."

A fifth person posted: "The only highlight and they changed it. Glad I missed it."

However, it is worth noting that in Canada, the feed did indeed spell HAR-DON so there was a bit of fun to be had for fans wanting to relive their mischievous high school days.

Sky will have been keen to refrain from a mishap of any sort after the scenes on transfer deadline day.

Viewers were left stunned when a man held rubber testicles behind reporter Kaveh Solhekol while he did a piece to camera at Stamford Bridge.

Coverage went back to the studio and Solhekol later moved positions.

YouTube prankster Jarvo69 claimed responsibility and Sky were forced into apologising.
