It has been two decades and 137 games since they last tasted victory but San Marino's well-documented 20-year wait for a win could finally end on Wednesday night.

Roberto Cevoli's side, who are the lowest-ranked national team in the world, will come up against Saint Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday in a much-anticipated friendly match in Serravalle.

La Serenissima have been looking for a win since April 2004, when a free-kick from Roberto Selva was enough to beat Liechtenstein in front of 700 fans at the Stadio Olimpico di San Marino.

In fact, San Marino have been ahead for just six minutes, against Malta in August 2012, since that historic day.

But that could all change this week, when they come up against the Caribbean nation, who recently suffered a 5-0 defeat to Guadeloupe in their Concacaf Nations League campaign.

San Marino are currently the 13/10 favourites to beat 147th-ranked Saint Kitts and Nevis, with the bookies giving their opponents a 19/10 chance of victory.

Roberto Cevoli, who was appointed their first-team manager in January, wants to build on their recent momentum after losing their last three games 2-1, 3-1 and 2-1.

"I want to dream with no limits," he told the BBC. "I am fully aware of the troubles the national team has to overcome differently from other national teams, but I hope to continue the progress the team has shown.

"If we can start with a win that would be a great achievement. It would be great for the self-esteem of the players, the staff and the football environment in San Marino."

Cevoli added: "It won't be easy. We are fully aware we will go through a thousand troubles in the game. But the players are doing the right things, training in a great manner and we hope we can get a victory - why not?"

Even if they fail to beat their opponents on Wednesday, San Marino will get another chance to secure a win over Saint Kitts and Nevis after a second fixture was scheduled for March 24.

Can they end the longest winless streak in international football history? Let us know.
