Mason Greenwood has been ranked rock-bottom among forwards in Europe’s top five leagues for one key stat.

Back in August, it was confirmed that Greenwood and Manchester United have mutually agreed that the 22-year-old would continue his career away from Old Trafford.

On transfer deadline day, Greenwood confirmed a loan move to Spanish La Liga side Getafe for the 23/24 season.

Since moving to Spain, Greenwood has managed 10 goals and six assists in 32 appearances across all competitions for Getafe.

However, it has been revealed by CIES Football Observatory that Greenwood has the lowest defensive work index among forwards across Europe’s top five leagues.

The index is worked out via the player’s out-of-possession high-speed distance and pressing duels.

Greenwood scored 2.8, which is the lowest, he is followed by former United striker Romelu Lukaku, who scored 5.1.

Rounding off the top three is Paris Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, with a score of 10.9.

The likes of Rafael Leao, Ivan Toney and Gerard Moreno were also named on the list.

Here is the full list below:

Mason Greenwood - 2.8

Romelu Lukaku - 5.1

Kylian Mbappe - 10.9

Rafel Leao - 13.1

Duvan Zapata - 13.5

Vedat Muriqi - 14.2

Ivan Toney - 14.7

Moses Simon - 14.8

Gerard Moreno - 17.0

Riccardo Sottil - 17.7

Speaking recently about Greenwood’s future, Getafe president Angel Torres said he would like to keep the player at the club but will face competition.

He told Radio Marca: “Atletico have not asked me, the only one who has asked me was Laporta when he was here. I spoke with him and Deco and they asked me because they like the player.

“If it depends on the boy and his parents and the club, I think he will continue another year. In Manchester, the sports director who I spoke with last week, if there is a good offer, they would like to sell because he is not going to return there.”

Torres added: “But if it depends on his family, the fans and so on then I think he will stay, we recovered him after 16 months not playing. We are going to have to wait a month and a half or two months. (…) What I think is that he is going to stay.

“To sign, all the teams, not only Barcelona, also Getafe, Atletico… we need to first sell and then buy. That’s why it’s going to be a long summer. The situation of Spanish football is that first, it needs to sell and then buy. It’s the problem that 80% of the clubs have.”
