Manchester United have identified the two strikers they will target after missing out on signing Viktor Gyokeres.

Like several of their Premier league rivals, United have been actively trying to sign a new star striker during the summer transfer window ahead of next season.

Several players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, including the highly-rated Gyokeres who worked with United boss Amorim at the manager's former club Sporting.

However, despite trying to hijack the deal in the final stages, it appears that Gyokeres has turned down his former manager to instead sign a contract with Arsenal.

Therefore, United must turn their attention to other strikers believed to be available in the transfer market, and it appears that they have picked out their two top targets.

Despite signing both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund for a combined £108million in recent seasons, it is clear that United need a new man to lead their attack.

And according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, United have identified Benjamin Sesko and Nicholas Jackson as the best options for the number nine position.

Like Gyokeres, Sesko has been linked with several Premier League sides in recent transfer windows, with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool said to be interested in the RB Leipzig star.

But with Arsenal and Liverpool both finalising deals for Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike respectively, it appears that the Slovenian will have to look elsewhere if he hopes to join the English top division.

United could prove to be the perfect option for Sesko, but that doesn't mean a deal will be easy, as Sesko could still remain at Leipzig if a suitable offer doesn't arrive.

And should it become clear that he is available for a good price, Plettenberg believes that Chelsea could also enter the race for Sesko's signature, despite the fact that they have already signed two strikers this summer.

"There are now many movements in the background for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but I can also imagine him staying this summer if there is not the right offer," Plettenberg told Sky Sports.

"I cannot close the door to possible Chelsea interest, so let's see what happens in the next two or three weeks with Sesko."

Other than Sesko, out-of-favour Chelsea striker Jackson is believed to be United's top target, having impressed scouts after producing ten goals in -30 Premier League appearances last season.

With both Liam Delap and Joao Pedro joining Enzo Maresca's squad this summer ahead of Chelsea's victory in the Club World Cup, it is believed that Jackson could be available for a cut-price deal this summer.

If so, United will step up their interest in the Senegal international ahead of their season opening fixture against Arsenal.

"There are talks with interested clubs and it is our understanding that Man Utd are targeting Sesko, he is one of two candidates to be their new No 9 and the other one is Nicolas Jackson," said Plettenberg.
