David Ornstein has provided a significant update on rumours involving Manchester United and Victor Osimhen, as well as naming the club's number one target in the summer.

Currently languishing in 14th and on course for their worst ever Premier League season, United are set to be extremely active in the summer window and there have been a flurry of reports relating to their transfer targets.

With Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to be a reliable source of goals, a plethora of strikers have been linked to United and it was claimed that both Osimhen and Viktor Gykoreres of Sporting CP are on their four-man shortlist along with Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko of Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig respectively.

However, the reliable Ornstein has a different view on United's top striker priorities.

David Ornstein reveals Man United's top striker target

On Wednesday, ahead of Arsenal's visit of Crystal Palace, The Athletic's football correspondent claimed that Osimhen, on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, is not "on the agenda" for United.

He stated that Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is the ideal choice for United after scoring 12 goals in 31 games for the Championship strugglers in his Premier League debut.

Ipswich paid Manchester City £20 million to sign him permanently in the summer but will likely only get £10 million profit as he has a £30 million release clause which becomes active if Ipswich, 15 points adrift of safety with five games to go, are relegated as expected.

"In the striker position, it's Liam Delap of Ipswich Town as their number one target," Ornstein said on NBC Sports Soccer.

"He has a £30 million release clause if Ipswich are relegated. There are other suitors for him, including Chelsea. I think Liam Delap will decide before the European U21 Championships on where he wants to go.

"If Manchester United are to look at others, I'm assured it will NOT be Victor Osimhen despite reports you might be reading. He is not on the agenda for Manchester United."

Should United or any other suitors go all in for Delap, City would be entitled to £6 million of the £30 million fee after inserting a 20 per cent sell-on clause in his contract when they agreed to offload him.

Matheus Cunha continues to be linked with United but he responded to recent speculation with a post on Instagram where he wrote that there was "too much conversation."
