Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly pressing Manchester United to replace Erik ten Hag with a high-profile candidate.

United endured a tough 23/24 season as they finished in eighth place in the Premier League and were knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage.

However, Ten Hag did end the season on a high as they managed to beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final last month.

According to reports, United are currently undergoing a review and will decide whether Ten Hag is the right man to lead the club forward.

As reported by TeamTalk, legendary boss Ferguson is pressing the club to replace Ten Hag with Mauricio Pochettino, who left Chelsea last month.

It is believed that Ferguson is very close to the former Paris Saint Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss as he continues to press the case for Pochettino to be given the chance at Old Trafford.

The report stated “Pochettino is someone of interest to United, and sources close to the former Southampton and Tottenham boss have confirmed to us that he has made it clear that despite only leaving Chelsea at the end of last season – he is ready to return to management.”

Pochettino returned to Stamford Bridge on Sunday night to take charge of the World XI for Soccer Aid 2024.

Speaking after the match, the Argentine said: “I have full energy and I think we finished really well.

“Now we just wait and see what happens. In football you never know, things can happen – today, nothing but tomorrow can appear and any opportunity, we are open to listen.”

When asked whether he wants to return to the Premier League, Pochettino smiled and said: “Open to football, we’re open to football.”
