Scott McTominay names 'two of the best professionals' he played with at Man Utd, they're no longer at the club

McTominay didn't hesitate.

Scott McTominay has revealed two of his former Man Utd teammates are the 'best professionals' he's ever played with.

McTominay was handed his United debut by Jose Mourinho in May 2017 when he came off the bench in a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.

He's been a mainstay in the Red Devils squad ever since, making 233 appearances in all competitions.

The Scotland midfielder helped United to a third-place finish and the Carabao Cup last season, the first trophy of his career.

It's been a tricky campaign for Erik ten Hag's side, who sit seventh in the table, but he's been able to rely on McTominay.

He's United's top scorer in the Premier League with five goals and regularly makes himself a menace in the box.

Despite being a polarising figure among supporters, there's a reason four different managers have put their faith in McTominay.

The 27-year-old sat down with the High Performance Podcast earlier this week to recount his career at Old Trafford.

He's played with some of the greatest players in the world. Among his former teammates are Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.

McTominay decided to go for Michael Carrick and Ashley Young when naming the duo who never dropped their standards in training.

He argued with both men about how aggressive he was when making tackles during his first full year in the senior set-up.

"I was arguing with Michael Carrick and Ashley Young who are two of the best professionals you could ever meet," McTominay explained.

He dug into his relationship with Carrick, who is one of the finest midfielders of his generation, even further.

Carrick, who is now manager of Championship outfit Middlesbrough, moved into a coaching role at United after retiring in 2018.

"(He was) One of the best players I’ve ever played with or been coached by,” McTominay continued. "The way he thought about the game and how he approached things was just different.

"He would see flaws in your game before you do and that was just when he was playing with you.

"The level of detail he went into was amazing. You could see it first hand, he was incredible for me personally."
