Ruben Amorim Called Out for 'Disrespectful' Decision in Win Over Wolves

The Manchester United boss watched his side win 4-1 at Molineux.

Several Manchester United supporters were disappointed by Ruben Amorim’s decision-making despite the Red Devils beating Wolves 4-1 at Molineux.

Amorim’s Man United side secured a routine win in the Black Country as Rob Edwards’ Wolves remain winless in their first 15 matches this term.

The West Midlands side sit 13 points from safety and eight behind second-bottom Burnley. As for United, they put in a solid showing with Bruno Fernandes opening the scoring 25 minutes in before Jean-Ricner Bellegarde drew the home side level in first-half stoppage time.

But Amorim’s side took the lead again on 51 minutes via Bryan Mbeumo slotting home Diogo Dalot’s assist to make it 2-1.

On 62 minutes, Fernandes turned provider and found Mason Mount in the box, who made no mistake from close range.

The Portuguese was involved again eight minutes from time when he calmly dispatched past Sam Johnstone from the penalty spot to round off a convincing 4-1 victory, which leaves United sixth.

And despite their side securing three points, some fans were not best pleased with Amorim’s substitutions.

Several suggested that Kobbie Mainoo should have been introduced earlier than he was, with the England international replacing Casemiro with just 12 minutes of normal time to play.

Mainoo has been linked with a move abroad, and is yet to start a Premier League match this term, with Bayern Munich and Napoli reportedly among those interested in the 20-year-old.

Meanwhile, some others thought that 18-year-old Shea Lacey should have been handed his senior debut, having been named in the last four matchday squads.

Instead of handing the young Liverpudlian his debut, Amorim opted for more experienced substitutes with Lisandro Martinez, Mainoo, Joshua Zirkzee, Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro all coming on during the second half.

Supporters were quick to offer their thoughts on social media.

One said: “Results matter at the end of the day, but my frustration with Lacey will continue to go on, and his not getting his debut today, even at 4-1, is very odd. Amorim himself said Lacey was ready to play, yet he’s giving him zero integration. Mbeumo and Amad will be off to AFCON soon, and he’ll suddenly expect Lacey to be polished with no minutes in his legs.

“You can’t expect a kid to be polished when you’ve given him zero minutes. This needs to happen, as this side will really suffer without both Mbuemo and Amad. Start preparing him now, not when you’re forced to. It’s that simple.”

Another added: “No Mainoo saga, all because we won.

“Now it's Lacey, not getting a debut. Ruben Amorim is in charge now; you must earn your debut and playing time.”

While a third clamed: "Will Amorim give that Lacey a chance? 4-1 up with 6 minutes left, and he can’t even give him his debut.

“This isn’t what United is about."

A fourth commented: “No! Mainoo disrespect is costing the team.”

United return to action at home against Bournemouth on Monday, 15 December.
