Man Utd fans realise why Ruben Amorim has stuck by one player after Brentford defeat

The Red Devils lost 4-3 away at Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United fans have realised the reason why Ruben Amorim has stuck by a player this season after the Red Devils’ 4-3 defeat against Brentford on Sunday (May 4).

United put in a torrid display at the Gtech Community Stadium and failed to build on Thursday’s 3-0 away win in the Europa League semi-final first leg against Athletic Club.

On Sunday, Amorim’s side took the lead 14 minutes in thanks to Mason Mount, before a Luke Shaw own goal levelled the scores 13 minutes later.

On 33 minutes, Kevin Schade handed Brentford the advantage before he doubled his tally on 70 minutes, Yoane Wissa then put the Bees 4-1 up with 16 minutes left.

But United did manage to pull two back thanks to strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Amad, which made the scoreline look more respectable.

After full time, fans on social media were quick to realise why Amorim, 40, has stuck by goalkeeper Andre Onana for most of the season despite several high-profile mistakes.

This comes after United’s usual second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, started in west London on Sunday but failed to perform well.

One fan said: "There’s a reason Onana is still number 1."

A second added: "Believe it or not, Manchester United have heavily missed Andre Onana today."

While a third explained: "Too bad for Bayindir seems like he will be out this summer. I actually like him but well idk a little bit unfair since he doesn’t get much opportunity."

A fourth claimed: "Alright. Basically Bayindir should be shipped off. He ain't gonna challenge Andre for No. 1 spot."

As another commented: "I don’t know if Bayindir is decent or not? One second he’s making a brilliant save & then the next second he can’t pass a simple five-yard pass."

Speaking to Sky Sports shortly after his side's defeat, Amorim said: "We started well, we controlled quite well and then throw-ins and set-pieces was a problem for us, but that is normal for us because we didn't have the height with the team.

"We fought back and we were near - we tried to push and in the end we lose."
