Man Utd Handed Immediate Ruben Amorim Sacking Verdict After Brentford Defeat

United suffered their third Premier League loss of the season as pressure mounts on the Portuguese head coach.

Manchester United have been warned they may have to consider Ruben Amorim's future as head coach after the club's disappointing 3-1 loss to Brentford.

United travelled to west London to face the Bees at the G-tech Community Stadium in today's lunchtime kick-off in the Premier League.

But United were stunned with a two-goal deficit inside 20 minutes after a brace from Igor Thiago, before Benjamin Sesko netted his first strike for the club to halve the deficit before half-time.

Amorim's side were handed the chance to level the score after Nathan Collins was penalised for pulling Bryan Mbeumo's shirt in the penalty area, but Bruno Fernandes's following spot kick was saved by Caoimhin Kelleher.

And the hosts made the three points secure in stoppage time when Mathias Jensen fired home to seal United's fate and inflict a third Premier League loss for Amorim's men in six games so far this season.

United are yet to win back-to-back games in the Premier League since Amorim's arrival at Old Trafford last November and the Portuguese has secured only 34 points in the English top flight from 33 matches played.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the loss, Amorim said: "Of course we want to win. We didn't control the game. We played the game of Brentford. First balls, second balls, set pieces. All the crucial moments were against us. Tough to lose again but we need to think about the next one.

"The first goal was a long ball. We worked on that in the week, and on set pieces. We knew the long balls (were coming) and one touch they had the opportunity. We need to do better.

"We didn't play our game. We only had control for some moments. But it was more or less all the same. We need to play our games, not the opponents, but they were stronger on that."

Across football, questions are being asked following Amorim's poor record in charge of United, including if and when the Old Trafford club might opt to make a change in the dugout.

But pundit and former Manchester City defender Micah Richards believes Amorim's stubbornness and particularly around the 3-4-2-1 formation he has adopted could see him losing his job one day.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: "I think because Ruben Amorim is being so stubborn in what he’s trying to do, it could be the undoing of him down the line.

"We can talk about the owners backing him but ultimately it’s just not working."

Richards added: "Shambolic. The system is hampering them. They're not sure where they're meant to be.

"In terms of the goals, there were individual errors. (Harry) Maguire was trying to play offside for the first one - there's no point gambling there.

"For the second, (Matthijs) de Ligt doesn't know where's he's going and Maguire isn't sure where to position himself.

"It's 100% confusion caused by playing that system. It doesn't suit the players.
