Rio Ferdinand Fires Dig at Everton After Heroic 10-Man Win Against Man Utd

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has hit out at Everton after they claimed a famous victory with 10 men against his former side on Monday night.

Everton secured their first win at Old Trafford since 2013 thanks to a superb finish from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The Toffees were reduced to 10 men after just 13 minutes when Idrissa Gueye was dismissed for striking his own team-mate Michael Keane.

Despite the early setback, Everton took the lead shortly before the half-hour mark and defended well, as David Moyes claimed his first win at Old Trafford as a visiting manager.

For United, who came into the match on a five-game unbeaten run, it was an alarming performance.

They lacked intensity and struggled to create chances against a team that had 10 men for the majority of the match.

On the one-year anniversary of Ruben Amorim's first game in charge, the performance was yet another reminder of how far his team still have to improve if they want to challenge for the European places.

The result drew frustration from fans and former players, with Ferdinand taking to X to share his reaction.

He said: "This game can humble you quick.

"And the result yesterday at Old Trafford against 10 men, against the third best team in Merseyside.

"I'm joking, I'm joking.

"Against a solid Everton side, not the best Everton side we've seen, but a solid Everton side with 10 men and we don't get it done."

Gary Neville, who was commentating for Sky Sports was also hugely critical of United's performance.

A win would have taken them into fifth place and a victory by three goals would have taken them into the top four.

Instead United remain stuck in tenth, while Everton move above their Merseyside rivals Liverpool into 11th.

"It's as if they've imagined in their heads they're going to be in the Champions League places, and they thought that maybe before the game," Neville said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

"It just smelt of complacency. They weren't at it from the beginning. That is a bad one for United.

"I think they've been a lot better in the last few weeks. That probably takes us back to Brentford away.

"You can't go from the fight that they showed in certain games to that. It just erodes confidence, it erodes trust."

Neville continued: "It's almost as if you've gone sort of like two or three steps forward, everyone's feeling a little bit better about themselves, and you've just gone back to the start again.

"You can lose football matches, but you can't lose them like that. That's nowhere near good enough, it's not acceptable."
