Paul Scholes didn't hold back when assessing the performance of one player during Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad.

United travelled to the Reale Arena in Donostia-San Sebastian on Thursday evening for the first of two meetings with Spain's Real Sociedad in their Europa League round of 16 clash.

Despite putting in a performance better than most of their other matches this season, United failed to hold on to the 1-0 given to them by Joshua Zirkzee early in the second half.

And in the wake of the match, United legend Scholes has called out one player for letting his teammates down, labelling one of his decision's during the match as 'criminal.'

With the scoreline still at 0-0, United appeared like they were going to get a good chance to open the scoring midway through the first half, as Portuguese wing-back Diogo Dalot found space on the right wing while striker Rasmus Hojlund ran towards the goal.

However, the defender took to long to pass the ball to Hojlund, allowing Sociedad players to catch up and kill off any opportunity of an attack, and Scholes was not happy.

Addressing the moment while speaking on TNT Sports, Scholes said: "The frustrating thing is, for 20 minutes we saw them warming up, and that's exactly what they were practising. Into the wing-back, crossing it first time.

"For Dalot not to see that, is criminal really. Hojlund, he's made a great run. For any right-back in world football not to see that is criminal, and that's an easy goal for Hojlund."

Robbie Savage, who was on commentary for the match, agreed with Scholes, as he reacted to moment by saying: "If I'm the manager I'm absolutely hammering him."

Immediately after the moment, Hojlund was seen complaining to his teammate, making it clear that he believes he should have had a chance to score his first goal since December 12.

The Danish striker has struggled to live up to the £72million price tag that saw him join United from Serie A club Bologna in the summer of 2023.

Since then, the 22-year-old has scored just 23 goals in 79 appearances for the Red Devils.
