Manchester United’s hierarchy, including chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, have reportedly decided on Michael Carrick’s future at the club.
Since succeeding Ruben Amorim as United head coach in January, Carrick has guided the Red Devils to 10 wins, three draws and just two defeats in his 15 games in charge, securing the side’s Champions League qualification for the first time since 2022/23.
Despite his success, Carrick remains under contract at Old Trafford only until the end of the season, with several top-class managers such as Luis Enrique, Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola linked with taking the job permanently.
However, a new report from The Athletic claims that United’s footballing department leaders, Wilcox and Berrada, have recommended that Carrick be offered the job to keep him at the club beyond the current campaign.

But it is thought that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have the final say on Carrick’s future. The 44-year-old has also been involved in future planning meetings and discussions about summer recruits.
The Glazer family, the club’s majority shareholders, are also content for Ratcliffe to make the final decision.
The decision is expected to result in United holding direct talks with the Englishman before United’s final Premier League match against Brighton on May 24.
Formal talks will get under way in the coming days, with an agreement expected to be easy to reach regarding legal details.
As reported by ESPN, Carrick and his coaching team — Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion and Jonny Evans — are popular with the United squad and may also be kept on.
United return to action against Nottingham Forest on May 17.
What has Carrick said about his future?
Speaking last week, Carrick said: "Clarity is important … We’ve finished strong, put ourselves in a good position and the situation of my role and what it looks like moving forward, I think it’s just the natural time. It was always spoken about towards the end of the season, if not the end of the season.
“At this stage it’s just putting the boys in a place to finish the season strongly and then, as I’ve said all along, I’m calm about it.
“It’ll get sorted out when it’s going to get sorted out. It’s out of my hands, so we’ll see what happens.”
