The Spanish FA have determined what Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood said to the referee as he was sent off for Getafe against Rayo Vallecano.

Getafe ended the 2-0 defeat with nine players after Greenwood and team-mate Juanmi Latasa were both sent off, while defender Damian Suarez was shown two yellow cards in a matter of seconds as he left the field to be substituted.

Greenwood saw a straight red card for apparent dissent, although it was unclear what the forward, who is on loan from Manchester United, said to referee Jorge Figueroa Vasquez.

After the full time whistle, Getafe boss Jose Bordalas claimed: "The player told me that he said, 'Don't f**k with me', only that.

"It was in frustration, but at no point has he insulted anybody. It was a comment, 'Don't f**k me with me, why won't you blow [the whistle]'."

After hearing evidence from the referee, Greenwood and Getafe, the Spanish FA have since decided to rescind the forward's red card.

He played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday, though failed to get on the scoresheet.

In a statement, the Spanish FA revealed what was actually said by Greenwood against Rayo: "The repeated viewing of the images, in fact, has allowed this Committee to conclude, beyond any doubt, that the action that led to the expulsion did not occur as described by the referee and, ultimately, prove the material error manifest in the referee's report.

"These images demonstrate that the player actually said, 'One, two, three, four [fouls], f***'."

Vasquez wrote in his report that he believed Greenwood to have shouted 'F**k you' towards him, and added: "Once sent off, he takes the finger to the temple making a repeated gesture as a sign of disagreement with the decision made."

Greenwood is contracted to Getafe on loan until the end of the season, with United having determined through an internal investigation that the forward's future will lie away from Old Trafford.

He has been linked with moves to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, while The Sun claim that Getafe are willing to smash their transfer record to sign the 22-year-old permanently at the end of the season.

Greenwood's last game for United was in January 2022, shortly before he was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault and then suspended by the club.

He was subsequently charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charges were discontinued by the CPS last year, who stated that a 'combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses, and new material that came to light', meant there was 'no longer a realistic prospect of conviction'.

That prompted United to launch an internal investigation, and its outcome led to Greenwood's loan move to Getafe on deadline day last year.
