Mark Goldbridge has given his opinion on Manchester United's latest transfer link, and he's not happy.

With just one week left of the January transfer window, United are yet to sign their first player under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Instead, the club appears to have been focusing on their outgoings this month having sent Antony to Real Betis on loan and both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho looking likely to depart.

But now, it seems that owners INEOS may have settled on their top target in the final week of the window, but popular United fan Goldbridge isn't convinced.

In the final weeks of the transfer window, United star winger Garnacho has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

As part of the deal, it has been rumoured that the Red Devils could be interested in Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, who has failed to impress since joining the club from RB Leipzig ahead of the 2023/24 season.

While many United fans are excited by the prospect of signing the Frenchman, Goldbridge had a bold claim about what may happen to the club if they were to sign Nkunku in this window.

Posting on social media platform X, Goldbridge wrote: "If we get Nkunku......INEOS really are sending this club to the Championship"

So far at Chelsea, Nkunku has managed to score just 16 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions, with the majority of them coming outside of the Premier League.

However, the 27-year-old boasted a much more impressive tally at former club RB Leipzig, scoring 70 goals and assisting 54 in 172 appearances.

Therefore, if United were to get Nkunku and are able to help him find his previous form, they could be securing a major signing, despite Goldbridge's bold claim.

But it remains to be seen how active United will be in the final days of the window, as manager Amorim kept his cards close to his chest when asked about transfers after last week's Europa league win over Rangers.

"I don’t know what will happen. Let’s focus on the games, we have these players. Let’s improve the team. Think about the players that are here. We don’t know until the window is closed," Amorim admitted.
