Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing a Real Madrid player with Champions League pedigree.

United currently sit 14th in the Premier League after 27 matches this season.

The Red Devils are out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, with the Europa League being the only realistic opportunity to capture silverware and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Ruben Amorim will no doubt want to add to his squad, having only signed youngsters Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven since he arrived at the club in November 2024.

This summer will provide an opportunity to bolster his options by moving players on and bringing others in who can play in his 3-4-3 formation.

Many United fans were underwhelmed by their side’s lack of activity in the winter transfer window but Amorim, 40, explained that the likes of Dorgu, 20, and Heaven, 18, fit the “kind of profile” that the Red Devils need.

"It's not just one thing that the coach today decides one thing, and then we change everything, and then it's a completely different profile,” Amorim said in February.

“We try to find the right players with the physicality for this league: young players, hungry players.

"Sometimes, we cannot spend a lot of money with players. So, it’s that kind of profile that we look for and Dorgu, he has all that ability to play in this team, to improve. Ayden - the same thing. He's young, he's left-footed, he's a central defender, so it's the right profile for us in the moment.”

But who could the club sign in the summer transfer window.

Well, according Spanish outlet Fichajes, United have ‘set their sights’ on recruiting Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

Lunin, 26, who is a Ukraine international, did a fine job filling in for first-choice ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois for a large period during the 2023/24 campaign, in which Los Blancos won La Liga and the Champions League.

Fichajes claim that United are willing to submit a £33.6m bid for the player - although he is contracted to Madrid until June 2030.

Carlo Ancelotti recently praised the 26-year-old despite him only playing a sporadic part in Madrid's season - with nine appearances.

“He performed really well, he's a very reliable goalkeeper," said Ancelotti after Madrid's Copa del Rey semi final first-leg victory against Real Sociedad on February 26.

"He was fantastic last year, and the same goes for this season."

Where this would leave United's Andre Onana is unclear, with the Cameroonian having signed for a hefty fee of £47.2m in June 2023.
