Manchester United have reportedly made a last-ditch bid to hijack a Real Madrid transfer.

United are looking to strengthen their squad for the new season after confirming that Erik ten Hag will remain in the dugout.

A one-year extension clause has been triggered in the Dutch coach's contract, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2026.

United are expected to soon complete the signings of defender Matthijs de Ligt and striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bayern Munich and Bologna respectively, both of whom are currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024.

As part of the summer overhaul, United are attempting to snatch another defender from under the noses of Real Madrid.

According to journalist Nabil Djellit, United have had an official offer of £42 million plus bonuses for Leny Yoro accepted by French side Lille.

Real Madrid have made the French centre-back one of their top targets this summer, and are currently negotiating with Lille.

The 18-year-old's priority remains Real Madrid, but United are pushing to persuade him to move to the Premier League.

Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool have also been linked with the young defender, but it now looks like Real Madrid and United will go head-to-head for Yoro's signature.

United need to strengthen a backline that leaked 58 goals in 38 league games last term.

Raphael Varane has left the club following the expiration of his contract, while injuries picked up by Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez suggested that they cannot be relied upon to play week-in week-out.

The Premier League giants have also been linked with a surprise signing at left-back.
