A new report claims Manchester United were unable to get a deal over the line after making an approach for one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders.
It is expected to be a busy summer at United. As we all know, the experienced Casemiro is set to leave at the end of the season, meaning there will be a noticeable gap in the centre of midfield.
Sandro Tonali, Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Alex Scott have all been linked, while the club are in 'advanced talks' to sign Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes for £69 million, according to Reuters.
Another name that continues to crop up is Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller, a player who has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe over the past couple of years.

In fact, United made an approach for Stiller last summer, according to a new report from BILD, which claims the Premier League side were 'hoping to sign him in the final stages of the transfer window.'

However, the 24-year-old decided against a move as he wanted to play regular minutes in a bid to make Germany's World Cup squad.
Back in September, a report from the Mail claimed the Bundesliga outfit had been open to doing business with United on deadline day, but the player did not receive guarantees over regular minutes.
Stiller has been on United's shortlist for years, according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims director of football Jason Wilcox is a huge admirer of the German.
The midfielder, who featured for Germany in their friendly win over Switzerland on Friday, has previously been linked with numerous top European sides, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Angelo Stiller named as dream transfer target by Manchester United fan Luke Littler
Earlier this week, Luke Littler was asked to name his favourite German footballer ahead of his Premier League win in Berlin.
The darts world number one proceeded to direct a transfer plea to Angelo Stiller.
After naming Stiller as his favourite player, Littler added: "Come to United. Please, come to us. We need help. Casemiro is leaving us."
