Man Utd given transfer boost as new left-back says 'yes' to joining the club

One of Manchester United's alternative left-back targets has given the green light to joining the club after Newcastle's decision to keep Lewis Hall at St James' Park.

United have been pursuing Newcastle full-back Hall, 21, for much of the summer window as new permanent head coach Michael Carrick looks to add further depth to his squad.

His only natural left-back option at present is Luke Shaw, with Tyrell Malacia having been released as a free agent.

United are preparing for a return to Champions League football this season and, while they have already secured the signings of midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined fee of over £70 million and Karl Darlow has joined the goalkeeping ranks, more work still has to be done.

Since Newcastle's decision on Hall, United have been linked with a host of alternatives, including 19-year-old Spain youth international Jorge Salinas.

Also among the possibilities being considered by United is RB Leipzig left-back and captain David Raum, according to TEAMtalk.

The 28-year-old currently has a release clause believed to be worth around £34 million.

However, he is in the final 12 months of his contract at the Bundesliga club, meaning a deal could be negotiated for a lower fee.

It is claimed that Raum 'would be happy with the prospect of moving to Old Trafford', and that he has already held talks with senior figures at the club previously.

The report adds that he is ahead of other alternatives in the pecking order, including Barcelona's Alejandro Balde, with United put off by his recent injury record.

German outlet BILD reported in May that Bournemouth, whose new manager Marco Rose was previously in charge at Leipzig, were interested in signing Raum, although it doesn't appear that the interest has progressed further.

He has received 39 caps for Germany since making his senior international debut in 2021, and was part of their squad at the 2026 World Cup.

The Germany international was named in the Bundesliga's 2021/22 Team of the Season while playing for Hoffenheim, and secured a move to RB Leipzig that summer.

Prior to his move to Hoffenheim, Raum was playing in Germany's second tier, but ended up playing Champions League football just 12 months on.

In an interview with Red Bull's official website in 2022, he said: "It's crazy how fast things can go in football.

"Even last year I was on the sofa watching the competition with my friends on TV. Now I get to play in it, which is a huge dream.

"I'm very happy and proud of myself that in the last years, step-by-step, I've been able to make this dream come true."
