A Manchester United star who saw his mooted transfer fall through could still leave the club, it has emerged.

Including loans and permanent deals, United offloaded 12 players in the summer transfer window as part of a mass squad overhaul at Old Trafford.

Andre Onana became the most recent exit when he joined Trabzonspor on loan after United moved to bring in Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day.

However, one United player could still move on even though his permanent departure fell through in agonising fashion.

The Turkish transfer window closed on Friday but the 21-year-old was poised to get his move before the deadline.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, United ultimately called the deal off after feeling as though they couldn't get the move done in time for the final sign-off.

That was after a fee, buyback clause and personal terms were all agreed upon.

Mather, who hasn't made a senior appearance for United despite featuring on the 2024 pre-season tour, faces being left in limbo.

It's said he will instead likely train with the first-team and play in select academy fixtures before his situation is assessed again in January.

However, The Mirror have noted that a solution could still be reached as the transfer window is still open in Serbia and Israel, as well as the United Arab Emirates and Qatar if Mather fancies a move to the Middle East.

The forward had attracted interest from Sweden and Germany as he looked to finally get regular first-team football.

The England youth international signed his first professional contract with United in 2021 and has spent the past two seasons on loan in the lower leagues with Rochdale and Tranmere Rovers.

Meanwhile, one man who looked destined tspoo leave United but ultimately ended up staying put is Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia.

A member of 'United's bomb squad' which wasn't allowed to train with the rest of the group, Malacia was linked with Eyupspor in Turkey before a loan to La Liga side Elche fell through on deadline day.

And while Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho all moved either on loan or permanently, he remains a United player and was a shock inclusion in their Premier League squad.
