Sofyan Amrabat transfer 'clue' spotted on Man Utd website as club release new squad numbers

Sofyan Amrabat transfer 'clue' spotted on Man Utd website as club release new squad numbers

Amrabat has been rumoured with a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United have added fuel to speculation that they could sign Sofyan Amrabat this summer after confirming that a handful of player's shirt numbers had changed.

The Red Devils are said to be monitoring the Fiorentina midfielder this summer, with Erik ten Hag keen to add a defensive-minded midfielder to his ranks this summer.

United have already signed Mason Mount from Chelsea for £65 million, and are closing in on a deal for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana along with Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

But once that business is concluded, Ten Hag may turn his attention to 26-year-old Amrabat.

The midfielder is out of contract at current at the end of next season, and could be available for as little as £30 million, with Fiorentina open to parting ways with the Morocco international, according to the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT have claimed that United are stepping up their pursuit and are now "monitoring" the World Cup semi-finalist, after allegedly agreeing personal terms with the player.

And eagle-eyed fans may have spotted a potential transfer 'clue' on United's website.

Amrabat transfer 'clue' spotted

Manchester United have confirmed new squad numbers for academy players Matej Kovar, Alvaro Fernandez, Kobbie Mainoo and Dan Gore on Tuesday.

The club announced goalkeeper Kovar will take No.38, Fernandez will wear No.42, Mainoo will take No.37 and Dan Gore has been given No.44.

The four youngsters are set to feature across United's pre-season and some could even play in the opening game of the summer tour against Leeds in Oslo on Wednesday afternoon.

However, with no changes to the first-team shirt numbers yet, several numbers remain up for grabs, including the No. 4 shirt worn by Amrabat for Morocco.

Raphael Varane has also been tipped as a contender for the number, but United have shown no signs of changing his current No.19 shirt, meaning supporters could be forgiven for thinking it may be reserved for Amrabat.
