Manchester United fans were left furious with Scott McTominay after one particular moment during their defeat to Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga giants snatched a 4-3 victory over the Red Devils in an enthralling Champions League Group A match at the Allianz Arena.

The result means Bayern go top of Group A after Galatasaray and Copenhagen drew 2-2 earlier in the day. Meanwhile, United sit the bottom of the group after just one game, as the pressure increases on Erik ten Hag.

There were plenty of talking points from the evening's action, such as Andre Onana's howler which gifted Bayern the lead, Harry Kane's controversial penalty and Sergio Reguilon's inspired performance.

But one moment that stood out to supporters was McTominay's lack of effort to try and retrieve the ball after he lost possession on the edge of Bayern's penalty area.

After taking a heavy touch and losing the ball to Dayot Upamecano, the Scotland international looked to the ground and slowly jogged back, despite only coming onto the pitch 10 minutes earlier.

If Scott McTominay cannot be bothered to sprint to redeem the error he made maybe he should have went to Fulham, cannot believe we still have him, fight for the badge! pic.twitter.com/xlBotiHsMx

Fans were quick to react to the midfielder's lack of effort, with one person tweeting: "Disgraceful and uncharacteristic for Scott — there’s something badly going wrong behind the scenes."

"Unacceptable," another added.

"So Mr passion and desire shows no passion and desire," a third wrote.

While a fourth exclaimed: "Even the ref runs faster than him. All the goals against us have been midfielders not tracking back. Mainly Scott and Eriksen."

A fifth remarked: "I thought I was the only person who saw it. An opportunity he would have used to stake a claim before the return of [Sofyan] Amrabat and Kobbie [Mainoo]. Once these two are back in the team plus [Mason] Mount, McTominay is finished."
