Erik ten Hag's days could be numbered if Manchester United fail to perform against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The Red Devils suffered their third defeat of the new Premier League campaign on Saturday, as they were comprehensively beaten 3-1 by Brighton at Old Trafford, leaving them 13th in the table.

Meanwhile, European giants Bayern Munich lie in wait, with Thomas Tuchel's side poised to host United for their opening game in Group A.

The heavyweight showdown may have come at the worst possible time for Ten Hag, too, after odds were slashed on the Dutchman to be sacked.

That's according to Bookmaker William Hill, who have halved their odds for the United boss to be shown the door after their disappointing defeat to the Seagulls and several off-field issues, to just 8/1.

Ten Hag is the only so called 'Big 6' manager thought to be in serious danger of leaving his position, with Paul Heckingbottom (13/8), Sean Dyche (9/4) and Rob Edwards (8/1) rounding up the rest of the top four.

A spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “It’s been a sobering start to the season for Manchester United both on and off the field, and our price for manager Erik ten Hag to be the next Premier League boss to leave their post is beginning to reflect that.

“The Dutchman was 16/1 to depart Old Trafford before United’s bitterly disappointing defeat to Brighton, but we’ve now halved that price to 8/1 following a turbulent couple of weeks for the club.

“Paul Heckingbottom remains the 13/8 favourite with us after Sheffield United’s late defeat to Spurs on Saturday, with Everton boss Sean Dyche (9/4) also feeling the heat.

Meanwhile, former former Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton has warned Ten Hag that United's form must change change urgently if he is to stay in a job.

"Erik ten Hag needs to solve this situation fast, because the scrutiny on him is increasing with every sub-standard showing," Sutton wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“United are a club with the highest expectations. Always have been. Always will be. To have only won two of their opening five Premier League games — and they were lucky they won those — is not good enough."
