Manchester United have quietly recalled a player from his loan spell in the Championship, just a week after Ruben Amorim namedropped the academy product in a press conference.
Earlier this month, Amorim was accused by fans of 'throwing academy players under the bus' after he singled out three youngsters ahead of their Premier League clash against Bournemouth.
Asked about Kobbie Mainoo's future amid rumours of a possible Old Trafford departure, the United head coach brought up three youngsters – Harry Amass, Chido Obi and Toby Collyer.
Speaking about Mainoo’s chances of playing if he left on loan, Amorim said: “He (Collyer) played (for the United first team). He’s from the academy. He played here. He went to West Bromwich."

"He’s not playing," the Portuguese added: "He played for Manchester United. So sometimes it’s not because he’s from the academy or whatever."
Amorim added: "(Harry) Amass is now struggling in the Championship. Chido (Obi) is not always a starter in under 21s. All these guys played when a lot of people were saying sack the manager."

Amass, who joined Sheffield Wednesday in the summer on an initial six-month loan, is enjoying life at Hillsborough and was awarded the Player of the Month award for November, securing 82 per cent of the fan vote.
Collyer also went out on loan to the Championship, with West Brom capturing his services on a season-long loan.
However, after making 12 appearances for the Baggies, the 21-year-old midfielder has officially returned to Old Trafford after United decided he would not return to West Brom when fit, according to The Athletic.
Collyer, who recently returned to Carrington for treatment on a calf injury that is expected to sideline him for around eight weeks, may provide competition in United's midfield should Kobbie Mainoo leave.
The report suggests several Championship clubs are interested if United decide to loan him out again.

Collyer, who made 13 first-team appearances for United in 2024-25, said he was "really keen to get out on loan" before completing his move in August.
"I think it’s an important step and one that I needed," he said in his first interview at West Brom. "It’s important for me to try and play as much football as possible and to help the team as much as I can.
“The experiences I had in the senior side at Manchester United last season were really good and they’ve put me in a great position to come here now having had a taste of the senior environment."
He added: “This is the right step and a great opportunity to take my game to the next level."
