Shock Man Utd player Sir Alex Ferguson called a better finisher than Cristiano Ronaldo makes sensational return offer to Ruben Amorim

The former United striker thinks he could still feature for the club today.

A former Manchester United striker who was described as a 'better finisher' than Cristiano Ronaldo by Sir Alex Ferguson has offered his services to current manager Ruben Amorim.

Amorim is currently short of options in attack after United allowed both Antony and Marcus Rashford to leave the club on loan in January without replacing them.

An ankle ligament injury suffered by Amad has depleted his attacking stocks further, and the Portuguese boss now cannot step into the transfer market until the summer with the deadline now firmly passed.

That summer spending could be limited amid a series of club-wide cuts being announced by United, with chief executive Omar Berrada confirming that the club are 'initiating a wide-ranging series of measures which will transform and renew', including approximately 200 job cuts.

If Amorim is on the lookout for cheaper options in attacking areas, a former Manchester United striker under Ferguson has offered his services - even if only for a small amount of games.

Federico Macheda signed for United at 16 and infamously scored on his debut, with his goal off the bench in a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in April 2009 sealing that season's league title.

He only went on to score a further four goals for the club, however, and left United in 2014.

His career since then has seen him represent clubs across a range of different European nations, including his native Italy, Germany, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus.

The now 33-year-old is currently playing in the Greek Super League for Asteros Tripolis, where he has struck six goals in 18 matches this term.

Speaking to The Sun, Macheda said: "At 33? I think I could play there [at United]. Yes. Do better? I don't know.

"I must say it's not easy to play for Manchester United now. But I think I could still play there.

"Personally, I like Zirkzee and Hojlund. The club is under pressure. The situation is not easy for any striker, even if you put Lewandowski in the team.

"But as a player, I can see myself playing there at the moment. A couple of games if Ruben Amorim needs me!

"I know the Premier League level. It's very difficult but I could play there. Why not?"
