Ruben Amorim’s reaction when Amad is asked if he is 'hopeful' of Alejandro Garnacho staying at Man Utd has got people talking

Garnacho has been told to find a new club by the United head coach, according to reports.

In a pre-match press conference on Thursday, Ruben Amorim had a telling reaction when Amad was asked if he was "hopeful" of Alejandro Garnacho staying at Manchester United.

Garnacho looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer after the Argentine was told to find a new club by Amorim as he addressed the first-team squad at Carrington, just days after their Europa League final defeat to Spurs.

In fact, a report from the Daily Mail emerged this week that suggested an angry Amorim told Garnacho to "pray" that a club will sign him as he effectively ended the 20-year-old's United career on the spot.

Garnacho was then left out of United's matchday squad for their final game of the Premier League season against Aston Villa but hours later, he was on the plane to Kuala Lumpur to take part in a two-game tour of Asia.

Still, the United academy product looks to be on the verge of leaving – and a pre-match press conference ahead of the club's friendly against Hong Kong has only intensified rumours of his uncertain future.

As you can see from the footage above, Amorim was sat next to Amad when a reporter asked the Ivorian forward if he hoped Garnacho, one of his good friends, would stay for the upcoming campaign.

"Obviously you're very close with Alejandro," said the reporter. "Are you hopeful that he could end up staying at the club, or do you not know?"

Moments later, Amorim can be seen laughing. In fact, the Portuguese head coach attempted to stifle a laugh with his hand before looking up at the sky.

"Alejandro is a really good player," Amad replied. "We need good players in this team. I know Garna really well. I hope to have him next season. It is not really a big issue for the team. Everything is good now, I think."

Some have argued that Amorim was merely laughing at a message on his phone, with the timing being coincidental as Amad was asked about Garnacho. But the moment has sparked plenty of reaction from fans on social media.

One said: "Amorim laughing when Amad was asked about Garnacho staying," while another commented: "Some passive aggressive reaction this is."

A third commented: "If Mourinho did this to an Academy lad, there would be riots on the streets of Manchester."

A fourth said: "My guess is because he’s fed up with the amount of times the question about Garnacho has come up in the last week," and a fifth added: "Why are they asking Amad about Alejandro..."

Amorim was also asked about Garnacho's inclusion in his post-season squad amid rumours surrounding his future.

"It's not a surprise [that Garnacho came to Asia]," said Amorim. "He's a player of Manchester United, all the players are here. Some players have an injury and it was better not to fly here to play these two games. It's a normal situation, it's okay."
