Alan Shearer launches brutal attack on Man Utd players as stunning claim made by Premier League legend

Premier League record goalscorer Alan Shearer launched a stinging attack on Manchester United after the 1-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

Leandro Trossard's strike in the 20th minute condemned United to a 19th defeat of the season in all competitions.

Erik ten Hag's side have conceded 82 goals, the most in a single season since 1970/71.

Currently eighth in the league on 51 points, they need to win both of their final two games to avoid setting a record for their worst ever points tally in the Premier League.

That unwanted record belongs to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick in the 2021/22 season.

Yet Shearer is adamant that the current side is the worst he's ever seen at United, who dominated in his playing days at Blackburn and Newcastle.

'I think that's the worst Man United team I've seen in my lifetime," he said on the Rest is Football podcast.

"You can't fault their effort - they tried (against Arsenal).

"But in terms of ability, and I know they've got loads of injuries, but would you argue against me - being the worst in my lifetime that I've seen?"

United have been plagued by injuries, to the point where they have been 60 first-team absences and a staggering 14 different centre-back pairings.

Casemiro has had to deputise of late but struggled against both Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

But Shearer believes even with the injuries taken into account, United are still "a million miles away" from the Premier League's top three.

He continued: "They've been in decline for such a long time that it is going to take them a long time to get anywhere near. They're miles off it."

"Even the players that you mentioned who are out injured, even if they are all fit, it's still going to take them a long time to be challenging, to be where City are or where Liverpool have been or Arsenal.

"They're a million miles away, even with those."

United host Newcastle in their final home game of the season on Wednesday, before they finish with a trip to Brighton on Sunday.
