Man Utd post statement after Liverpool confirm Premier League match is ON amid fresh Met Office warning

Liverpool vs United will go ahead.

Manchester United have released a statement following confirmation that their Premier League away fixture against Liverpool will go ahead despite weather warnings.

Heavy snowfall occurred in parts of the North West overnight, and images from close to Anfield this morning appeared to place the fixture in significant doubt.

The Reds held a safety meeting with local authorities on Sunday morning to determine the status of the game, with concerns centred largely on conditions outside the stadium and fans travelling to the ground rather than the state of the Anfield pitch.

Just before 12pm, Liverpool confirmed that the game, which is due to kick off at 4:30pm, would go ahead as planned.

Now, United have posted their response to the confirmation.

"Following a second safety meeting, it has been decided that today's match between Manchester United and Liverpool will go ahead," the club's official account posted.

"There has been snowfall and weather warnings across the North West on Sunday but it has been deemed safe for fans to attend the 16:30 GMT kick-off.

"Take care if you are travelling to Merseyside, Reds."

While the North West is currently under an amber weather warning for snow and ice, the Met Office have recently released a fresh weather warning.

It will be in force from midnight on Sunday and remain in place until midday on Monday, via the official Met Office website.

The decision to play the match will allow Liverpool the opportunity to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a victory over their fierce rivals at Anfield.

Arne Slot's side have two games in hand on second-placed Arsenal prior to kick-off, with the Gunners drawing 1-1 at Brighton on Saturday.

United, meanwhile, have lost their last three games without scoring a goal and could start the match six points above the relegation zone depending on results elsewhere on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the match, United boss Ruben Amorim said his players have to 'cope' with the pressure that is being placed on them.

He said: "They are anxious, sometimes afraid on the pitch. We have to cope with that. We need the leaders to step up to help the other guys.

"I'm the most responsible person here to improve the performances."
