Kobbie Mainoo is being closely monitored by a Premier League club who have recently made a 'shock enquiry' about the England international amid his uncertain future at Manchester United.

He has been one of the few positives in an underwhelming period at Old Trafford over the past couple of years, but academy product Kobbie Mainoo could part ways with his boyhood club this summer.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who played a bit-part role under Ruben Amorim since his arrival, has been in contract negotiations with United since March 2024 but an agreement has yet to be reached despite ongoing talks.

Back in March, The Manchester Evening News suggested there was 'a genuine chance' that Mainoo could leave this summer for £70 million.

And this week, it has emerged that Tottenham have registered their interest in Mainoo, with the North London club 'closely monitoring' his uncertain contract situation at United as talks remain at a stalemate.

A report from TBR Football claims Spurs 'appreciate' Mainoo and have already made an enquiry. They add: "Mainoo is keen to stay at Man United, but the longer he goes without agreeing to sign a new contract, the more likely it becomes that he could be sold."

As mentioned above, Mainoo has been limited to first-team minutes of late, especially towards the end of United's campaign in 2024/25. Ultimately, he has struggled to find a natural home in Ruben Amorim's high intensity 3-4-2-1 system.

Mainoo, who made 19 starts in the Premier League last season, also holds reservations about his role in the team, according to talkSPORT, who claim he and six other players could be sold this summer.

Player sales are inevitable at United amid their fight to avoid Premier League Profit and Sustainability rule breaches, and homegrown players such as Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are registered as pure profit on the balance sheets.

Tottenham also stepping up their pursuit of Manchester United forward

Spurs are thought to be monitoring the situation of wantaway United winger Alejandro Garnacho, according to The Telegraph, who also claim Aston Villa and Chelsea are keen.

It is said suitors believe Garnacho could be snapped up for £40 million.

Back in January, Chelsea also expressed an interest in bringing Mainoo to Stamford Bridge after United reached a 'stalemate' in contract talks with Mainoo's representatives.

In fact, at one stage, it looked like Chelsea were in pole position to sign United's academy product. Thoughts on the future of Mainoo and Garnacho? Let us know in the comments.
