Manchester United's stance on Kobbie Mainoo has emerged in a new report as speculation continues to grow over the midfielder's future.

Mainoo has grown frustrated with his bit-part role under Ruben Amorim, according to widespread reports, and is therefore open to leaving Old Trafford this summer after failing to appear in their opening two Premier League games.

In total, ten clubs have expressed an interest in Mainoo and a number have made contact since Monday, according to the Mail, who claim United are expected to decide on his future within the next 48 hours.

Chelsea are long-term admirers and are currently one of the favourites to make a transfer happen, while Real Madrid and local rivals Atletico are said to be monitoring his situation before the window slams shut on September 1.

Mainoo, meanwhile, is thought to prefer a move to the continent over a Premier League stay, according to The Athletic, who report 'there is a belief' United would now accept around £45 million or potentially even less.

Man Utd stance on Kobbie Mainoo transfer made clear

Although widespread reports suggest the player is open to leaving, Mainoo has yet to inform the club of his stance, according to Sky Sports.

The report from Dharmesh Sheth and Mark McAdam also claims United are 'happy with Mainoo and are not actively looking to let him go', while a loan deal is said to be considered 'very unlikely'.

Amid the rumours, former Manchester United defender John O'Shea echoed what many United fans are feeling at this moment in time.

"He's a quality player, United cannot afford to be losing him or selling him for any reason whatsoever," he told talkSPORT. "He's definitely part of the future of the club and he's going to be successful without a doubt."

After last weekend's 1-1 draw against Fulham, Ruben Amorim pointed out that Mainoo is in direct competition with Bruno Fernandes for a place in the side

O'Shea says he found it "slightly strange" that the United manager brought up Fernandes when speaking about Mainoo.

"I just found that a little bit strange," he said. "I know he's probably putting a bit of a challenge to him, saying: 'Listen, that's who you're up against'.

"Bruno has obviously been a top performer for the last few season, so it's a little bit strange, but hopefully it's just a bit of a wake-up call for Mainoo to do something a bit different."

He added: "Can he rise to the challenge? Is it a little psychological thing [set by Amorim] for him?"
