Manchester United fans were livid after the side was denied a late penalty during their 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

An injury-hit United conceded what proved to be the only goal of the game on 25 minutes, Joachim Andersen firing in from close range after a free kick.

United fans criticised the defending of the set piece immediately prior to the goal as they decided what was to blame.

Erik ten Hag's side tried and failed to get back into the game, but there was to be no equaliser at Old Trafford.

United were therefore consigned to a second consecutive home defeat in the Premier League, after having previously gone 25 games unbeaten at the Theatre of Dreams.

The defeat piles on the pressure, with United now having won only three of their seven league games this season.

But they believed they were harshly denied a late penalty when a long ball deflected off Joel Ward's hand inside the area.

Had the ball not touched the Palace defender's hand, it would have rolled through to Marcus Rashford, who was in a position to shoot.

But VAR decided not to award a penalty, perhaps owing to the proximity of Ward's arm to his body at the time.

United fans, however, were furious about the decision and took to X (Twitter) to vent their frustrations.

One wrote: "He literally prevents the ball from going to Rashford by using his hand?? How is that not a handball."

Another said: "It's now becoming a joke."

A third added: "This is just not right... someone has to do something."

A fourth fumed: "Someone explain how this isn't handball. Played from 20 yards away, he looks at it two seconds before his arm and his decision to turn his back on it."

And another said: "Never seen a clearer handball at a game in my life and it not be given, what a joke."
