Erik ten Hag set two more unwanted records after Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at Old Trafford.

United were looking to respond from the 4-0 hammering at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday against title contenders Arsenal.

But without captain Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, the Red Devils initially made a steady start to the game.

But that all went out the window in the 20th minute when Casemiro, playing as a centre-back again, showed no urgency to get up the pitch and played Kai Havertz onside in a passage of play that was akin to something out of Sunday League.

Havertz crossed for Leandro Trossard, who put the Gunners 1-0 up.

Incredibly, the goal was the 82nd United have conceded in all competitions this season.

It is the most United have conceded in a single season in 53 years, dating back to the 1970/71 season when they finished eighth in the first division.

United occupy that very same league position in the current campaign and ninth-placed West Ham are just two points behind them.

Yet another miserable record was matched by Ten Hag and United. They have now lost 19 games out of 49 this term, something they haven't done since the 1977/98 campaign.

United have two games remaining against Newcastle and Brighton and Ten Hag must win both to avoid becoming responsible for their worst ever season in the Premier League.

That record is a recent one and joint-owned by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick in the 2021/22 campaign.

United are currently on 54 points and the tally on that occasion was 58 points.

Ten Hag's future at United is still uncertain and Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are set to review his position at the end of the campaign.
