Man Utd close to signing deal that's 'biggest of its kind' in landmark moment

Manchester United are preparing to sign a major commercial deal that will be among the biggest in football.

Throughout the club's nearly 150 year history, United have achieved massive success both on and off the pitch with trophies coming in alongside huge commercial deals.

In total, United have won 68 major trophies, with the club generating over £500million a season in total revenue.

Although success on the pitch no doubt plays a big part in generating a lot of this revenue, a large amount of revenue each year comes in from the official sponsors that United work with.

And it's clear that the club knows exactly how important these deals are as it has been revealed that United are in advanced talks over a major new deal with Betway to sponsor the club’s training kit from next season.

As reported by The Athletic, the multi-year agreement is expected to be finalised in the near future and will see the British gambling company feature on all sportswear worn during training sessions at Carrington.

Photos of players training in the kit will also be regularly released by the club.

Sources have estimated that the deal could be worth in excess of £18m, making one of the most lucrative single partner training sponsorships in football.

The deal comes after a process that has lasted more than a year in which United officials held talks with several other brands before agreeing the deal with Betway, with the money and brand image seen as the best fit for the club.

Betway will replace the previous sponsorship by Tezos after the blockchain firm's three-year agreement ended in June last year.

The deal with Tezos reportedly made United £24m annually, but the new deal with Betway is believed to be good value in the current climate.

Betway have already worked with several other Premier League clubs having sponsored West Ham United’s matchday shirts and also agreed to be the official gambling partnerships with Manchester City, Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The deal comes after Premier League clubs voted to ban gambling sponsorships on the front of matchday shirts back in April 2023, set to come into effect from the 2026/27 season.

For context, in the ongoing season, 11 out of the 20 Premier League clubs have either a gambling, betting or casino company on the front of their kits.

However, despite the ban, gambling sponsorships are still a major presence in the sport with several other clubs believed to be in negotiations for similar deals that will see sponsors on training kits.
