Arsenal have received a huge update regarding Julian Alvarez's future, as the Gunners welcome Bruno Guimaraes to their Premier League title-winning unit.

Mikel Arteta's men won the English top-flight at the fourth time of asking in 2025-26, having finished second in the three preceding seasons to Liverpool and Manchester City.

The Gunners are enjoying a lucrative transfer window, having added Newcastle leader Guimaraes to their ranks ahead of what could be the first title defence in the club's history.

Now, Diego Simeone has revealed crucial details regarding Alvarez's club ahead of the 2026-27 season, with Arsenal in desperate need of attacking reinforcement as they look to claim a second successive top-flight crown.

"The club has made a decision, which Miguel Angel Gil Marin has explained very well," revealed Simeone, speaking to reporters ahead of his side's friendly against Manchester City. "From a sporting perspective, we're very happy to have a player like Julian, and we'll continue to help him grow and improve," stated the Atletico Madrid boss.

Gil Marin, Atletico Madrid's CEO since 2002, commented on Barcelona's approach at the end of June, and did not pull his punches when expressing fury over the La Liga giants' pursuit of their player.

"Barca are disrespectful towards us. They think they can do with us what they want," said Gil Marin. "They think we are weak and stupid. But in truth, they are simply showing the world a way of operating that defines them quite well."

For now, it appears that Alvarez will remain firmly put. Last season, he became the first player in Atletico Madrid history to record a double-digit goal haul in the Champions League, as he led his side to a tournament semi-final.

The arrival of Guimaraes and his leadership qualities could be vital in Arsenal's pursuit of a title defence, which they have never managed to achieve in the history of their club.

However, their efforts to sign Alvarez and Vinicius Junior could be indicative of a fear from within that their attacking depth is not significant enough, despite the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres, who ended 2025-26 as the Gunners' top goalscorer, last summer.
