Liverpool fans mock Phil Foden for what he said moments after winning Premier League title with Man CIty

Liverpool fans have responded to Phil Foden after hearing what he said moments after helping Manchester City to win their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

City went into their final day fixture against West Ham knowing that they only needed to match Arsenal's result at home to Everton to lift the Premier League trophy once again.

If there were any nerves about the occasion, though, they were quickly dispelled, with Foden's superb curling effort finding the top left corner to give City the lead inside just two minutes.

The England international added a second goal before half-time, and while Mohammed Kudus pulled a goal back for the Hammers with an overhead kick from six yards, Rodri's second half drive sealed the deal for Pep Guardiola's side.

Their 3-1 win meant that, despite Arsenal beating Everton 2-1, City would once again lift the Premier League trophy in front of their own fans at the Etihad Stadium.

After the match, Foden was asked what the triumph meant to him, and he told Sky Sports: "I think this Premier League means a little bit more..."

Liverpool fans believed that the remark was in reference to a similar comment made by Reds star Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier this year.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, he explained: "It's difficult. You're up against a machine that's built to win - that's the simplest way to describe City and their organisation.

"Looking back on this era, although they've won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs financially.

"How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we've done it, probably means more to our fans."

His comments didn't go down well at City - and fans mocked Foden over their interpretation of what he said - although it's unknown whether he actually meant his words as a direct reference.

Taking to social media, one Liverpool fan wrote: "They prove Trent right every single day."

Another said: "I feel for them. They'll never have what we have."

And a third added: "They've done the 4-peat and Liverpool is on their mind."

Of course, the chances are that Foden's comments were tongue-in-cheek if meant in that way - given that he and Alexander-Arnold will almost certainly be sharing an England dressing room at Euro 2024 - but it's got fans talking nonetheless.
