A number of Manchester United fans have taken to social media to praise Jamie Carragher.
Most Man United supporters will still be sporting a wide smile following their side’s 2-1 win against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, and so they should.
Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire, either side of Cody Gakpo’s equaliser, secured United a vital three points and their first win away at Liverpool since January 2016. The victory also marked Ruben Amorim’s first successive win since taking over from Erik ten Hag in the autumn of 2024.
And to the surprise of many, former Liverpool captain Carragher was full of praise for Amorim and his side during his analysis section ahead of West Ham United vs Brentford on Monday Night Football.

During the show, the 47-year-old broke down United’s “low block”, which frustrated Liverpool and, for the most part, stopped them from getting in behind the Red Devils’ defence.
“Ruben Amorim got his tactics absolutely spot on in this game in Anfield,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
“There’s no doubt about that. That’s the only way they could win the game [by playing in a low block].”

The Liverpudlian then continued to hone in on how “narrow” United’s back five were “underneath the ball”.
“Another really important point is nobody ever goes for the ball in behind in terms of a flick on or if Virgil Van Dijk misses it,” he added.
“So again, I mentioned Cunha being a little bit deeper than maybe a Sesko would be. So it was all about ‘maybe we don’t win the first ball, but we pick the second ball up’ here.”
Carragher, who is second on Liverpool’s all-time appearances list, having featured 737 times for the Reds, also suggested that both Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk should’ve done better to track Mbeumo’s 31-yard run for the opening goal.

And although the former defender-turned-pundit played for their biggest rivals, United fans gave him credit for his expert analysis on social media.
One said: “I know many people don't like him, but when it comes to analysis of game tactics he is always spot on.”
Another added: “Jamie Carragher with a brilliant analysis of how Man Utd beat Liverpool at Anfield.”

While a third claimed: “Carragher, that’s top analysis.”
Liverpool will return to action against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday. United don’t play until Saturday when they will face Brighton at Old Trafford.
