Manchester United have made their stance on Lisandro Martinez clear, amidst reports that Napoli were hoping to repeat the success of last summer's Scott McTominay signing.

The 27-year-old Argentine defender joined United three years ago from Ajax, but has struggled with injuries since his arrival.

After an impressive debut season, Martinez missed most of the following campaign season with a foot injury, before suffering a knee injury that ruled him out from February.

Despite interest Napoli, Martinez has ruled out a summer move, according to MailSport.

Napoli were reportedly interested in signing another United player after their success with McTominay, who was named Serie A's most valuable player award.

The Scottish midfielder helped secure the title with a stunning bicycle kick on the final day of the season.

When will Martinez return?

The Argentinian has not played since he was forced off with a cruciate ligament injury during Manchester United's 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on 2 February.

He was expected to be sidelined for around six months and MailSport confirmed he remains on track to return in September.

The centre back is reportedly keen to stay at Old Trafford, despite United failing to qualify for European football.

When fit, he he will offer Ruben Amorim another option on the left side of his back three.

However, Martinez may face competition for a starting spot, with Ayden Heaven and Luke Shaw both pushing to secure their places in the team.

Why do Napoli want to sign from Man United?

It has been widely reported that United are open to selling players this summer as they embark on a rebuild to sculpt the squad for Amorim.

Last summer, amid pressure to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), United sold McTominay to Napoli for £25 million, which proved to be a masterstroke.

McTominay thrived under Antonio Conte, scoring 12 goals in 34 Serie A appearances, to become the league's top scoring midfielder.

Napoli have also reportedly shown an interest in Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho, who has been told he can leave by Amorim.

United are believed to value the 20-year-old at around £50 million.

After being left out of the starting 11 for the Europa League final, Garnacho was reportedly told to find a new club, despite scoring in the FA Cup final just over a year ago.

Napoli were linked with the 20-year-old back in January, and it remains to be seen whether they will renew their interest this summer.
