Erik ten Hag's final action as Manchester United manager just moments after the 2-1 loss to West Ham United has been revealed.

United that they had sacked former manager Ten Hag had been sacked with an official statement on Monday afternoon.

Just one day before Ten Hag lost the job, United lost their fourth Premier League match of the season as an extra-time penalty secured a 2-1 win for West Ham United.

And now, details of what the Dutch manager did immediately after his final match in charge of United have been revealed.

According to The New York Times, following the dramatic conclusion to the game Ten Hag took the time to shake the hand of everyone in the changing room, which many viewed as him sensing that he may be about to lose his job.

Despite a dismal start to the 2024/25 Premier League season, which has seen United win just three games from nine, leaving them in 14th, the report claims that even in the end of his time at United, the dressing room did not turn on Ten Hag.

The apparent efforts made by players throughout the season is said to shown that Ten Hag and his players felt a togetherness and that they were all equally responsible for the poor results.

However, the report also adds that several players did feel that Ten Hag had been given adequate time to turn it around and that his era at the club had run its course.

Additionally, the growing influence of former player Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who came back to the club as an assistant manager in July, meant that many felt it was time for a new face in the United dugout.

Following the dismissal of Ten Hag, Van Nistelrooy will take charge of United as interim manager, leading them for their Carabao Cup clash with Leicester City on Wednesday night.

Speaking ahead of the game, the former striker said: "When I returned in the summer as Erik’s assistant, it was because I believe that Manchester United can climb back to the levels that I knew here as a player.

"I still have that belief, but it will take time and a lot of hard work."
