The first billionaire footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo has earned an eye-watering amount of money since moving to the Saudi Pro League in December 2022.

Ronaldo terminated his Manchester United contract by mutual consent, ending a second spell at Old Trafford after a falling out with Erik ten Hag.

He went into the World Cup in Qatar in the unusual situation of being a free agent before signing with Al Nassr and reportedly earning a whopping £177 million per year.

The wage, which equates to £3,403,846 per week, made him the highest-paid footballer in the world by a considerable margin.

On 1 January 2023 Ronaldo signed his two-and-a-half year contract and earned £354 million for his first two years.

He then added another £102 million in the first half of 2025, with his contract expiring on 30 June. Overall, that first mega deal earned him £456 million across 24 months.

There were some rumours about Ronaldo potentially moving onto pastures new but he stayed put with the Riyadh outfit, penning a contract extension said to be worth £298 million over two years.

Ronaldo is therefore estimated to make £12.4 million per month under his new terms, adding another £49.6 million to his ever-growing bank account in the four months which have passed since he committed his future.

Ronaldo becomes first billionaire

In total, Ronaldo has made £505.6 million from playing at Al Nassr, where he has scored 104 goals in 117 appearances.

That mammoth earnings in Saudi have helped propel him into a new stratosphere when it comes to Ronaldo's finances. According to Bloomberg's Billionaire Index, Ronaldo is now the first ever footballer to become a billionaire.

The outlet's finance experts crunch Ronaldo's numbers by analysing the 40-year-old's earnings, investments and various endorsement deals and said he now has a net worth £1.04 billion.

They say his earnings in Saudi have "catapulted him to the top of the rankings for highest-earning sportspeople".

They were unable to get a comment from Miguel Marques, who is responsible for managing Ronaldo's wealth through LMcapital Wealth Management, a firm based in Lisbon.

Ronaldo, the most followed person on Instagram, has endorsements with giant brands like Nike, Armani, Castrol and has also invested in hotels, gyms, real estate and media groups to add to his earnings.

It has been claimed that he upon re-signing with Al Nassr, he received a 15 per cent stake in the club.

He has started the new season with five goals in six games in all competitions.
