What happened to the 20 players Gazzetta dello Sport named as the top young talents in world football in 2014

Some familiar names feature on the list.

A decade ago, Gazzetta dello Sport were accused of "playing too much Football Manager" after the Italian outlet published a list of the best talents in world football under the age of 20.

The year 2014 was an interesting one, to say the least.

Luis Suarez sank his teeth into Giorgio Chiellini's shoulder at the World Cup, MK Dons knocked four goals past Manchester United in the Carabao Cup and Adnan Januzaj was tipped to dominate football for years to come.

At the time, Januzaj had scored a brace on his first start for United – a 2-1 win away at Sunderland – and he soon penned a five-year deal at Old Trafford. The Belgian was even nominated for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

Gazzetta dello Sport were convinced by his talents, placing him at the top of their list containing the 20 best young talents in world football.

But after a receiving Ryan Giggs' iconic number 11 shirt in August 2014, he was soon loaned out to Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland before sealing a permanent transfer to Real Sociedad. He is currently on a season-long loan at Las Palmas from La Liga side Sevilla.

So who else is included in the list? A number of former Manchester United players feature, including Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay, while former Ajax and Middlesbrough striker Viktor Fischer was ranked 11th in the overall standings.
