Manchester City and England midfielder Phil Foden has named the best player he has come up against this season.

The 23-year-old is in the form of his life at present. He has notched 25 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for Pep Guardiola's side as the Citizens chase another Premier League title.

After such an impressive campaign, Foden recently picked up the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award with 42 per cent of the vote, finishing ahead of Rodri and Declan Rice.

“Being named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year is a huge honour. I’m very, very happy to receive this award but I could not have done it without the help of my team-mates,” he said.

“We have a very special squad of players at City, and I’m privileged to be a part of that group."

As well as speaking to those in attendance, Foden took part in a quickfire Q&A session with The Football Writers' Association.

The midfielder was asked a series of questions, including whether he'd choose Harry Kane or Erling Haaland, and who is the quickest out of Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane or Jeremy Doku.

He was also asked about the best team and player he's faced this season. "Real Madrid and Toni Kroos," he said without hesitation.

City were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in April, losing 4-3 on penalties in their quarter-final second leg.

Things looked promising for Guardiola's men after they played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Bernabeu – and Foden was content with the performance.

“We stayed calm when we went behind and we just played our football, we grew into the game – I feel we’ve come a long way to come here and do what we did,” the midfielder said.

“We could have controlled it better when we went 3-2 up but we’re playing one of the best teams in the world. You’re going to make mistakes and it’s about how you react.

“Even the best teams in the world come here and struggle."
