Premier League legend Jose Mourinho has spoken out about Manchester City's 115 financial fair play charges ahead of his Europa League meeting with Manchester United on Thursday.

In February 2023, City were handed 115 charges, alleging that they had broken the Premier League's FFP rules over a nine-year period between 2009 and until 2018.

The official trial regarding the charges began on Monday, September 16 and, while it remains to be seen how the trial will play out, many have speculated on what kind of punishment City could face if they are found guilty.

And ahead of the official results, which are expected to arrive until early 2025, Mourinho has spoken out about City's charges and how it may impact him.

Mourinho, who currently manages Turkish side Fenerbahce, will face his former club Manchester United in a thrilling Europa League clash on Thursday.

And ahead of the match the Portuguese manager was asked if he thinks United are better or worse than when he led the club between 2016 and 2018.

In response, the 61-year-old appeared to take aim at City, referencing the 115 charges, saying : "As you know, we won the Europa League, we finished second in the Premier League.

"I think we still have a chance to win that league because maybe they punish Man City with points, and maybe we win that league. Then they have to pay me the bonus and give me my medal."

He also appeared to make a slight dig at current United manager Erik ten Hag, suggesting that he has been given more time at United despite the Dutchman facing increasing pressure following a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season.

"It doesn’t make sense for me to be thinking about what happened and what didn’t happen," Mourinho continued.

"What happened for sure is that they keep faith in the coach, they support the coach [Erik ten Hag] – the coach is staying season after season

"That means stability, it means trust – they are giving him conditions to keep developing his job. That was a difference in relation to me."
