Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has revealed he refused to go on American television after the club were found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules between 2009 and 2018, while also revealing how he really feels about potentially being stripped of his two league winners’ medals.
Hart made 348 appearances for City between 2006 and 2018, helping the side win two titles – in 2012 and 2014 – two League Cups – in 2014 and 2016 – as well as the 2011 FA Cup.
Both of the titles Hart won are now under threat of being stripped from City after an independent commission found the club guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League. The club have appealed the verdict and say they have a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists” to support their position. The result of the appeal is expected in late December.
Man Utd stars demand retrospective winners’ medals after Man City guilty verdict
Several former rival players, such as Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes, who finished second to City during their playing careers, have asked for winners’ medals should the 10-time English champions be stripped of their titles – although Wayne Rooney took a different stance.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2 on October 11, Rooney said: “Those players didn’t know what was going on, and they went onto the football pitch and won the league in 2012. So, we finished second. We didn’t actually finish first, and so I wouldn’t want a medal for finishing second.”

Joe Hart reveals true feelings on being stripped of Premier League winners’ medals
Now, Hart has offered his perspective during the latest episode of The Overlap Daily.
When Kelly Cates asked how he felt about City potentially being stripped of titles, he replied:
“So, I got asked that, and I ended up not going on TV in America because they said they didn’t want it to turn into anything that it didn’t need to turn into. They asked if my, you know, your name comes up and it says two league titles, and what am I going to do about that? What can I possibly do?
“You know me well enough now: I certainly don’t walk in the room and bang medals on the table. I couldn’t care less.
“We’re all different people, and people have chimed in, you know, because I’ve been asked this question internally, by family. What does it matter to me whether it says it or not?
“I’m so proud of having lifted those trophies and worked, you know, every month, just as hard as everyone else does in the Premier League and any league – Sunday League. I worked just as hard. There was nothing better than having it put around my neck.
“But whatever plays out over the next couple of months plays out. It’s not going to affect how I feel about my football and my career because I don’t really look at it like that.
“I’m so happy and proud to have done what I’ve done, but I don’t do it any more. Honestly, I don’t do it any more. And I don’t, you know, trophies and that, I don’t think they define me.
“I would have said that if I was sat here and this wasn’t a conversation, so let’s see how it plays out.”
