A man performed 300 crunches per day for 30 days, and the results were remarkable.
Abdominal crunches are a staple of most athletes’ gym programmes, with the exercise strengthening the upper abdominals by isolating the muscle.
As reported by Healthline, the exercise also strengthens the core, lower back and oblique muscles, which can in turn improve one’s posture and balance.
Whether gym-goers use the exercise to enhance their six-pack or for a more functional reason, such as because they play a sport, the benefits are there for all to see.

But what happens when someone does 300 crunches per day for 30 days straight?
Singapore-based fitness YouTuber Your Average Gent – real name Evan Zhang – did exactly that in 2021 and detailed his progress throughout the challenge.
At the start of the 30 days, Zhang’s waist measured 79 centimetres when flexed. And somewhat surprisingly, after doing 9,000 crunches, his waist reduced by just one centimetre to 78 after the challenge.
Reacting to the results, Zhang said: “It was the least demanding challenge of all my 30-day challenges, less than my three-hundred-squats challenge and way less than my 300 push-up challenges. My abs are able to fully recover the following day after each day of 300 crunches. Probably because the abs are a relatively smaller muscle group compared to the quads and chest muscles.”
The fitness influencer then revealed how he mostly did ten sets of 30 crunches each day of the challenge. But towards the end, he ended up doing six sets of 50 to get to 300 per day.

When comparing his body before-and-after videos, he said that there was “a bit of a difference” in the definition and toning of his abs.
Zhang also said he’d lost half a kilogram in weight while his diet remained the same. He then explained how being in a calorie deficit is more important than building the abs, although exercises will help shape them.
Viewers waded in with their thoughts in the comments section.
One said: “Just to remind people, if it’s your first time and you complete 300 crunches, I recommend you not go crazy eating a lot of food because your abs will get sore and you may start vomiting. This happened to me. Never force yourself to do 200 or 300 in your first attempt — and even if you do, good luck!”
Another added: “I’m gonna try it to see if it reduces my lower back pain.”
A third claimed: “Crunches are probably the most useless exercise.”
