A Maidstone United fan fell from the top tier in Ipswich Town’s stadium during wild celebration scenes.

This weekend, normal league football took a back seat as the FA Cup fourth round took centre stage.

On Saturday afternoon, sixth-tier side Maidstone travelled to Portman Road to take on Championship side Ipswich.

The visitors got off to a brilliant start after Lamar Reynolds netted to give Maidstone the lead with 43 minutes on the clock.

In the second half, Ipswich levelled the match thanks to Jeremy Sarmiento.

However, Maidstone went back ahead in the 66th minute with Sam Corne getting himself on the scoresheet.

Maidstone’s first goal of the afternoon sparked wild scenes in the away end.

However, there was a worrying sight as a fan fell from the top tier onto the Ipswich fans in the lower tier.

The stewards were seen rushing to the area but it is currently unclear whether any injuries were suffered by the fan.

On social media, it was speculated that the fan might have done it on purpose after a new video showed a new angle to the incident.

The fan wrote: “Hold on has that Maidstone fan done it on purpose?”

Speaking after the match, Maidstone manager George Elokobi said: “This is what it means to our community, it is all about us being together on days like this. It was up to the players to go out and enjoy competing against a fantastic Championship side.

“We had to be lucky in the first half but then we had to be resilient. And we knew they played so high, so can we catch them on the break if we played the right passes and had the runners behind.”

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna said: “It's a bad day for us, no doubt about it. It's an incredible scoreline really. Full credit to Maidstone, it's their big day and it's a really bad day for us and we're going to have to produce a big response to that.”
