Wayne Rooney has named the one Liverpool player he believes isn't getting the 'credit he deserves' following his performances at Anfield.

The Manchester United legend knows a thing or two about what it takes to make it in the top flight of English football, with 208 goals and a further 103 assists across his 498 appearances in the Premier League.

Despite his playing days now being over - and the former United man not in a management role after recently leaving Birmingham City - Rooney is keeping a close eye on the division he used to dominate.

There is one team and player in particular that he is paying attention to, which may confuse some Red Devils supporters.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Rooney admitted he is a huge fan of star man Mohamed Salah ahead of United's clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

"He carries the ball up the pitch, he makes great runs in behind, he scores goals and he creates goals," he said.

"That’s what he’s there to do. He’s the main threat. They’ve had No.9s; Roberto Firmino, Darwin Nunez. But he is the one that keeps scoring the goals.

"I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. Look at Phil Foden in a similar role.

"He’s got another eight, nine or 10 years to get to the numbers Mohamed Salah is hitting. I’d like to see him get more credit."

Salah played a major role in the 2-2 draw between the two sides on Sunday evening, as he levelled the score-line from the penalty spot after goals from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo gave United a shock lead.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring initially in the first half, after latching on to a Darwin Nunez's header which the Uruguayan had flicked on.
