Trent's Spanish Teacher Addresses Claims He Was 'Secretly Learning' at Liverpool

The former Liverpool star is set to return to Anfield with Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Spanish teacher has revealed exactly when she began teaching the Real Madrid right-back the language – and Liverpool fans won’t be pleased.

Alexander-Arnold, 27, has endured a tough start to life at Real Madrid following his controversial move from boyhood club Liverpool in June.

After receiving criticism from a large portion of Liverpool supporters, the right-back arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of the Club World Cup, during which he featured five times as Real were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.

Since then, Trent has made four La Liga appearances for Los Blancos but was forced off with a hamstring injury in his maiden Champions League appearance for Real against Marseille on October 16.

However, the Liverpudlian could be fit enough to return to Merseyside when Madrid face Arne Slot’s Liverpool in the Champions League league phase on November 4.

Of course, just five months on from his Liverpool exit, if he features, Trent will likely receive a mixed reception in his home city.

With his on-pitch struggles there for all to see, one mistake Trent did not make - which some of his British counterparts, such as Gareth Bale, did when signing for Real – was failing to learn the language.

When he was unveiled as a Real player on June 12, he impressed supporters by speaking fluent Spanish during his presentation.

"Thank you so much to President Florentino Perez and Real Madrid for this opportunity," he said in Spanish.

"Signing for a club like Real Madrid doesn't happen every day. It's a dream come true. I'm very happy and proud to be here. I'm eager to show the club and the fans what I can do."

Given his ability to speak the language so fluently, it was fairly obvious that Trent had been learning Spanish while still a Liverpool player, and the player confirmed this earlier this week when speaking on social media.

In a video posted online, he said: “I wanted to learn Spanish to communicate better with my teammates, my coach, and all the Real Madrid fans.

"To adapt better to the club and the people.

"I really like the classes because they're focused on football: press conferences, interviews, and all the vocabulary I need to talk to my teammates."

Meanwhile, Trent’s teacher, Sara Duque, explained how she’d been working with the Englishman for “five months”.

In a social media post, the teacher, who can speak Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, Italian, and German and works with several footballers, wrote: “Five months. That’s all it took, but it wasn’t easy.

“When he stood on that stage in Madrid and spoke with calm, clarity and heart, it wasn’t about fluency. It was about respect, courage, and a genuine desire to belong.”
