Paris Saint-Germain made history with a never-before-seen feat on Wednesday as Luis Enrique's side recorded a 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League league phase.

The holders maintained their unbeaten start to this season's Champions League with a dramatic victory over Barcelona.

With seconds remaining of normal time, Ashraf Hakimi exposed Barca's high line and made a perfectly-timed cross for Goncalo Ramos, who slotted past Wojciech Szczesny with ease to seal all three points on the road.

After a positive start from the home side, who took an early lead through Ferran Torres, it looked like Hansi Flick's side would go on and double their lead.

As a result of their latest win over the Catalan giants, Paris Saint-Germain became the first team in history to win three consecutive away games against Barcelona in major European competition.

After winning their last two away games against Barca by 4-1 scorelines (February 2021 and April 2024), they made it three with the 2-1 victory on Wednesday night.

It was a special game for Luis Enrique, who returned to Barcelona following a stint as both a player and manager.

“It’s always wonderful to be in Barcelona because it’s my home," he said in his pre-match press conference.

"This is the place where I lived through almost the best part of my career as a player and as a coach. It’s always special to be in Barcelona with the sun, as usual.

“Barcelona is my city, my home. I was here for eight years as a player and captain, and I was also a coach for several years. I can’t say a single negative thing about Barcelona. I will always be grateful to them forever."

He added: "When I return to Barcelona, I find many people who love me, and that’s the most beautiful thing I’ve gained in my career: the love of the fans."

PSG will face Bayer Leverkusen in their next Champions League league phase clash on October 21, while Barcelona come up against Greek Super League side Olympiacos on the same day.
